Stoltz Announces Second Generation A2 Site Spreader

New dustless cement spreader doubles output

Responding to customer demand, Stoltz, a division of Stoltzfus Spreaders, unveiled its second generation dual auger cement spreader, capable of dustless loading and spreading. According to Stoltz President Gary Lake, the redesigned spreader is expected to find widespread use in areas where reduced dust levels are a primary concern.

According to Stoltz VP of Operations Bernard Hershberger, the second generation A2 Site Spreader increases customer productivity by doubling the output of the older model. The new spreader couples the dust free loading and spreading capabilities of the previous model with spreading rates exceeding 90 pounds per square yard at 2 miles per hour.

“Our goal is to provide equipment that will solve our customer’s problems” said Hershberger. “To do this we feel it is critical to visit job sites and talk with both equipment managers and operators.” The new spreader reflects customer input through its power, accuracy, and ease of use. Innovations include power matching hydraulics, new loading technology, air filtration equipment, and a redesigned CAN based control system. Due to customer demand, Hershberger stated that the first two machines had to be designed, built, and delivered in 12 weeks. The substantially compressed development period forced Stoltz to supplement its in-house design capabilities and partner with Kraft Fluid Systems for the hydraulics design and Logical Control Concepts for the control software.

“To meet the target spread rate we needed larger and faster augers, which meant we needed to beef up the drive system” said Hershberger. “Kraft Fluid Systems did an excellent job meeting our performance specifications for this project”.

Stoltz turned to Scott Jones, president of Logical Control Concepts, LLC to design the CAN based control package for the new spreader. “Our extensive experience designing control packages for mobile off-highway equipment made this project a good fit for us” said Jones. “The new control system gives the operator the choice of speed matching discharge or manual spreading, and greatly improves usability”, stated Hershberger.

The Stoltz model A2 Site Spreader uses two large diameter augers in place of the wide drag chain in the original Site Spreader design. The new design features a power matching pump for better efficiency, and a powershifting drive system to guarantee that the product will not bind in the hopper.

The Site Spreaders are filled pneumatically from bulk material transport trucks. They use a patent pending slide gate to seal the hopper during loading, while the exclusive “double reverse expanded flow” air circulation system drops most of the dust before it exits the hopper through a custom designed pulse jet baghouse. Level spreading is accomplished by a patent pending adjustable spreading auger.

About Stoltzfus Spreaders

Founded in 1945, Stoltzfus Spreaders specializes in building heavy duty spreaders for wet lime, fertilizer, Portland cement, and other hard to spread materials. In 2002, the company introduced a new mechanical cement spreader for spreading Portland cement for the soil stabilization and soil cement processes. The cement spreaders are sold under the Stoltz Site Spreader brand name.

In 2006, Stoltzfus introduced a new soil stabilization cement spreader. The Stoltz A2 uses a dual auger discharge mechanism and a patent pending slide gate to further reduce dust while loading and spreading.
