Our Editorial Advisory Board
The members of DISTRIBUTED ENERGY's Editorial Advisory Board
are leaders in the field of energy management and distributed
energy resources. With their varied technical backgrounds,
geographic locations, and regulatory perspectives, they keep
us current on developments and trends in the industry and
provide guidance on the editorial content, direction, and
scope of the magazine. Here is a brief introduction to the
members of the board.
JAN BERRY
Research and Development Program Manager
Combined Heating, Cooling, and Power Group
Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN
As research and development program manager in the Combined
Heating, Cooling, and Power Group of Oak Ridge National Laboratory,
Jan Berry manages projects to design and install prototype
combined heat and power systems that use 3- to 5-MW gas turbines,
absorption chillers, and 200-kW fuel cells. Project implementation
informs needs for Laboratory research. Employed within the
US Department of Energy's (DOE) National Lab system, she has
devoted more than 20 years to improving system performance
by building teams, analyzing processes, and developing technology.
She is motivated to reap societal benefits using advanced
technology.
Berry has received 10 honors, including the first US DOEOak
Ridge waste minimization award in 1986 and a Young Women's
Christian Association award. She has organized or chaired
more than 16 conference sessions and has authored or coauthored
more than 90 papers. A member and past section chair of the
American Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of the
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning
Engineers, Berry earned her B.S. from the University of Florida
and her M.S. from the University of Tennessee, both in chemical
engineering.
E. KYLE DATTA
Managing Director of Research and Consulting

Snowmass, CO
E. Kyle Datta, managing director of research and consulting
for the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) in Snowmass, CO, is
responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction
of RMI's Research and Consulting Group.
Datta's expertise is in corporate and environmental strategy
for the energy sector. He earned an MBA in public and private
management from the Yale School of Organization and Management;
an MES, specializing in resource economics, from the Yale
School of Forestry and Environmental Studies; and a B.S. in
biology from Yale. He is coauthor of Small Is Profitable:
The Hidden Economic Benefits of Making Electrical Resources
the Right Size, the influential, award-winning book published
by RMI in 2002.
Datta is president and founder of New Energy Partners, a
renewable energy development company. As a partner in Booz
Allen & Hamilton, he managed a variety of consulting assignments
in the US, Europe, and South America during his 12-year tenure.
He founded and led the firm's efforts in corporate environmental
management for major energy companies. As Booz Allen's Asian
energy practice leader, he was responsible for client development
in Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Kuwait, and Indonesia, working
on country-level energy strategy, corporate restructuring,
and operational performance improvement. As US utilities practice
leader for Booz Allen, he developed corporate strategy, power
generation strategy, distributed power strategy, and renewable
energy strategy for major utilities, renewable energy technology
vendors, and state agencies. Datta received the Professional
Excellence Award from Booz Allen & Hamilton in 1995 and
1997.
He is a member of the Distributed Energy Research Advisory
Council, the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority,
and the board of directors of Foresight Energy.
JEFF DUMMERMUTH
Director of Energy and Engineering
Big Lots Stores Inc.
Columbus, OH
Jeff Dummermuth has 23 years of experience in the demand
and supply side of engineering and energy management and has
held various marketing positions with American Electric Power.
In March 1999, he was offered the energy manager position
with Consolidated Stores Corporation, the largest closeout
retailer in the world and a parent of Big Lots, MacFrugals,
Pic N Save, Odd Lots, and Kay Bee Toys, comprising more than
3,000 sites in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Guam. In 2001,
following the divestiture of Kay Bee Toys, the Fortune 500
retailer changed its array of store names and its company
name to Big Lots and began converting all of its stores to
a single national brand. This rebranding offered the opportunity
to focus on the core business and deploy a number of energy
management measures in an effort to increase efficiencies
and improve profitability.
As director of energy and engineering, Dummermuth is responsible
for monitoring, budgeting, and controlling utilities for the
stores and five distribution centers, and he manages a staff
that supports HVAC/R, balers, lifts, and freezers for 1,400-plus
sites. Individual responsibilities are to manage compliance
for all stores related to lighting and energy procurement.
Dummermuth holds an A.A. in applied science in electrical/electronic
engineering technology and an A.A. in general business studies
from Kent State University, along with a Certificate of Accounting
and Finance from the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State
University.
J. MICHAEL EDWARDS

J. Michael Edwards has an extensive, comprehensive background
in the deregulated energy industry, stemming from active industry
participation since 1988. He began his career as an energy
auditor and later sold commodities for Texas-Ohio Gas. He
transitioned to Texas-Ohio Power, where he was vice president
of sales and marketing, responsible for developing behind-the-fence
power plants in which Texas-Ohio served as owner and operator
to commercial and industrial clients. He was one of the early
adaptors of the value-share concept of distributed generation
development. He later worked for Planergy, an integrated energy
services company, leading the sales and marketing effort for
developing private power plants and energy service projects.
While at Strategic Resource Solutions, he served as the director
of sales and marketing for the distributed energy effort and
led the acquisition of what is now Hess Microgen.
In 1998, Edwards formed the Power Recruiting Group, an executive
search and strategic consulting firm focused solely on the
deregulated energy industry and more specifically on the distributed
generation segment. The Power Recruiting Group is recognized
as the premier search firm in this segment and serves many
of the largest names in the industry.
Edwards holds a BBA from Baylor University and an MBA in
business administration from the University of St. Thomas.
JOE IANNUCCI
Principal
Distributed Utility Associates
Livermore, CA
Joe Iannucci is principal of Distributed Utility Associates
(DUA), a consulting firm specializing in emerging energy business
concepts, economic studies of innovative technologies (such
as storage), and testing the electrical impact of distributed
energy resources on distribution systems. DUA created and
manages the Distributed Utility Integration Test facility
in San Ramon, CA, for the California Energy Commission and
US DOE. DUA's principal clients are utilities, technology
developers, and energy research organizations. Before founding
DUA, Iannucci was acting director of advanced energy systems
in PG&E's research and development department. He also
spent 15 years at Sandia National Laboratories, working primarily
in research and systems analysis on the economics of energy
technologies.
Iannucci received the Distributed Generation Distinguished
Achievement Award from William Parks of DOE in January 2004,
in recognition of his contribution to the advancement of the
distributed generation concept.
JOHN W. JIMISON
Executive Director
United States Combined Heat and Power Association
Washington, DC
John W. Jimison serves as executive director and general
counsel to the US Combined Heat and Power Association. He
also practices law from his own office on Capitol Hill, specializing
in energy regulation, transactions, and policy. He previously
was a partner in the international law firm of Cameron McKenna
LLP and a partner in the Washington-based energy firm of Berliner,
Candon & Jimison. From 1982 through 1985, he was a principal
administrator at the International Energy Agency in Paris,
France, responsible for electricity policy and natural-gas
analyses. From 1971 through 1981, he held several positions
on Capitol Hill. Now he also serves as general counsel of
the International Association for Energy Economics and the
Association for Energy Economics (AEE) and is the immediate
past president of the National Capital Area Chapter of USAEE.
He holds a B.A. from the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH,
and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, granted
in 1975. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the District
of Columbia Bar, and the Energy Bar Association.
JOHN F. KELLY
Director
Distributed Energy Gas Technology Institute

As executive director of distributed energy technology, John
Kelly provides product development, technology deployment,
and critical environmental and energy research. The Distributed
Energy Gas Technology Institute's (GTI) mission is to accelerate
the development and deployment of clean energy technologies.
This includes developing innovative programs in sustainability,
recycling energy, the future grid, and bioenergy; assisting
manufacturers with integrating technologies into buildings
and industry; developing plug-and-play systems; verifying
and certifying technology in its 3-MW test facility; and developing
engineering tools that lower the cost of design and economic
assessment.
Kelly performs research in the areas of electricity deregulation,
gas markets, technology, and technology deployment. He is
leading the development of regional energy plans that seek
to foster deployment of advanced energy technologies. Prior
to joining GTI, Kelly provided consulting services to the
electric industry for 17 years, including five years with
Duke Energy as manager of specialty engineering services.
Kelly received a B.S. degree in energy engineering from the
University of Illinois at Chicago and a certificate in environmental
engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Kelly
is a certified project manager and a licensed professional
engineer in the state of Illinois. In 2003, his team received
a second place award in an international competition with
seven other countries on sustainable energy design.
JOHN LEMBO
Director of Energy
North American Hotel Operations
Starwood Hotels and Resorts
White Plains, NY
John Lembo has more than 17 years of experience in energy
management, engineering, facilities management, and performance
contracting. As director of energy for Starwood Hotels and
Resorts Worldwide Inc., he is responsible for the development
and ongoing operation of the company's comprehensive energy
management initiative, which has been recognized by the Environmental
Protection Agency's Energy Star program with the Partner of
the Year Award for Excellence in Energy Management for 2002
and 2003.
Lembo holds a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He is a member of
the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning
Engineers and the Association of Energy Engineers. He has
published articles in HPAC Engineering and Boiler
Systems Engineering magazines and has been a featured
speaker at NAESCO, EEI, BOMA, EPRI, E-Source, and many other
industry conferences on such subjects as comprehensive energy
management, combined heat and power, energy information systems,
sustainability, and supply-side energy procurement.
JIM MOXLEY
Assistant Vice President of Facility Management
Healthsouth Corporation
Birmingham, AL
As assistant vice president of facility management for Healthsouth
Corporation in Birmingham, AL, Jim Moxley is responsible for
purchasing natural gas and negotiating electrical rates and
contracts for maintenance and installation of HVAC, roofing,
and lighting systems for 1,900 locations. Additionally he
is charged with reducing utility costs and conserving natural
resources via lighting retrofits and HVAC upgrades. He oversees
the activities of administrators and plant engineers on facility
maintenance issues and upgrades, ensuring that all standards
of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization
Environment of Care standards are met or exceeded. He developed
Healthsouth's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) database
to track status of ADA compliance at each facility and works
with contractors to make sure each facility is ADA-compliant.
Moxley holds a B.S. in marketing from the University of
Tennessee at Knoxville.
LYNNE D. WILDMAN
Senior Director, Regional Purchasing and Concept Support
Darden Restaurants Inc.
Orlando, FL
Lynne D. Wildman is senior director of purchasing for Darden
Restaurants Inc., a $4.6 billion casual dining company located
in Orlando, FL. Darden owns and operates more than 1,300 Red
Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Smokey Bones, and Seasons
52 restaurants in the US and Canada.
Wildman currently is responsible for portfolio purchases
of more than $300 million for Darden. She manages the regional
and national purchasing activities related to fresh, processed,
and frozen produce and fresh and frozen bakery products. She
directly manages electricity and natural-gas purchases for
all of Darden, including all energy risk management activities.
She also is responsible for leading the company's concept
support team and coordinating and facilitating the activities
of various restaurant concepts with purchasing, distribution,
and food safety departments.
Wildman holds both a B.S. and an M.S. in agricultural economics
from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
WALTER WOODS
Managing Director, Commercial
Markets
American Gas Association
Washington, DC
As managing director of commercial markets for the American
Gas Association, Walter Woods is responsible for developing
and implementing nondues revenue activities that target national
commercial end users from five industry sectors. The objective
is to maximize usage of the natural-gas industry's existing
distribution infrastructure. One such successful activity
is the National Accounts Energy Alliance, which brings national
commercial end users, DOE, energy equipment manufacturers,
and utility companies together to apply and verify emerging
and existing energy technologies in order to advance the commercialization
of distributed energy resource systems and advance applications
that promote collateral and such important policy issues as
security and reliability.
Woods serves on the boards of The Wall Street Institute,
Leadership Washington of DC, the American Gas Foundation's
National Accounts Energy Alliance, the advisory board of George
Mason University, and DOE's Healthcare Advisory Board. Woods
has been added to the 2001 Associations Advance America Honor
Roll by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE)
for developing a program that "resulted in significant
benefit to American society" and was given a 2003 Award
of Excellence by ASAE for developing a program that resulted
in "significant benefit to American society."
Woods received an MBA from Northwestern University's J.L.
Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Evanston, IL, in
1989 and a BBA, cum laude, from Howard University in
Washington, DC, in 1987. He participated in the LEAD Program
at the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia, PA, in
1980.
